The 2011 Todman Slipper Trial may have one of the shortest priced favourites in history with Sepoy leading a field of just five runners into the Group 2 race this Saturday March 19 at Rosehill Racecourse in Sydney.
After winning all three legs of the Blue Diamond Stakes in convincing fashion Peter Snowden will be using the Todman Slipper as one final tune up for Sepoy before the Golden Slipper in two weeks time.
A short time ago Sepoy moved into odds on territory and now sits at $1.90 in the Luxbet Golden Slipper Futures market.
He’ll be a lot shorter than that in the Todman Stakes with punters expected to take him at whatever price they can get.
The only factor stopping a Black Caviar style flood of money is the uncertain presence of Foxwedge.
After just the two starts he’s third in betting for the Golden Slipper and with such limited experience some punters are wary of what’s to come.
Last start he won easily in the Clarry Conners Plate at Warwick Farm so could be the hope to bring down Sepoy.
There’s also the fact Sepoy is yet to run on the famous Sydney right-hander, but regular jockey Kerrin McEvoy isn’t expecting any trouble.
“He handled it no worries at all,” McEvoy said after his first run on the track.
“While there wasn’t any race-day pressure, he worked really well.”
Other runners in the 2011 Todman Stakes field are Smart Missile, Straight Gold and Kid Kobe.
