It doesn’t take a genius to work out the 2011 Todman Slipper Tips with the form guide so straight forward it will probably be in the next issue of ‘Horse Racing For Dummies’.
Jumping as Race #2 on Coolmore Classic Day at Rosehill Saturday March 19th the Todman Slipper Trial is a race to determine the best male horse on thier way to the 2011 Golden Slipper.
It’s run on the same track over the same distance as the Group 1 and traditionally will signal a plunge of betting for the winner.
This year though the plunge of betting has already taken place with Sepoy backed in to a $2 favourite for the Golden Slipper, even before the Todman has been run.
It’s not surprising then that his odds for the Group 2 race are even shorter, a tiny $1.25 market best on online bookmaker Luxbet.
It’s hard to argue with the stats, four starts for four wins including all three legs of the coveted Blue Diamond series.
He won the final by more than four lengths, a truly incredible effort and the reason he’s so short in the Todman.
He’ll win this race and should win it easily with the only question mark being the John O’Shea trained Foxwedge.
This horse is also unbeaten, however he’s had just the two starts and certainly hasn’t been anywhere near the level of competition of Sepoy.
All you can do is win though and that’s what he’s done, last start in the Clarry Conners Plate he did so by more than two lengths.
The secret weapon he has is the blinkers, connections are adamant once they go on he’ll pick up at least an extra two lengths, so Sepoy backers beware the blinkers.
Foxwedge is a $7.50 second favourite with Luxbet for the Todman Slipper and just under $10 for the Golden Slipper.
In third spot for this race it will be Straight Gold at $12.
This horse is very interesting and started as the favourite in just his second race, the Silver Slipper, before finishing in third.
It was better then he should have done after running all across the track and really making his jockey earn his pay cheque.
If Corey Brown can control him and keep his energy going straight, this is a dangerous horse which has been forgotten about too early by punters.
If the favourite gets up here, Coolmore Classic Day will be renamed Sepoy Day at Rosehill with punters continuing their awesome run of backing odds on favourites and leaving bookies pondering a career change.
