Sepoy was unable to produce his usual form in the 2011 Todman Stakes, which was his only lead-up race to the 2011 Golden Slipper, and finished nearly a length behind Smart Missile in second place.

Smart Missile began the $300,000 Todman Stake poorly, when he missed the start considerably, however, came back with a vengeance to snatch victory from the four other runners.

The Anthony Cummings-trained two-year-old displayed in the 2011 Todman Stakes that he is more than capable of taking on the big names of horse racing.

Glenn Boss, who rode Smart Missile to victory in the 2011 Todman Stakes, believes that he is more than capable of upstaging Sepoy again when the Golden Slipper comes around on April 2, 2011.

“I really think he can win the Slipper,” he said.

“He’s got a bit of X-factor this horse, he did things in the track gallop last Saturday only really special horses can do.”

Jumping as Race #2 on Coolmore Classic Day at Rosehill Saturday March 19th the Todman Slipper Trial is a race to determine the best male horse on thier way to the 2011 Golden Slipper.

It’s run on the same track over the same distance as the Group 1 and traditionally will signal a plunge of betting for the winner.

This year though the plunge of betting has already taken place with Sepoy backed in to a $2 favourite for the Golden Slipper, even before the Todman has been run.

2011 Todman Slipper Trial Field & Barrier’s

The Group 3 event is the main lead up race for colts and geldings on their way to the Group 1 Golden Slipper in a fortnight’s time.

It’s worth $300,000 and gives punters an ideal form guide with the race run over the same distance on the same track as the Golden Slipper.

“He does not seem to get off-stride at all and he is just showing me nothing to say I should not be running him and I think five weeks from the Diamond is too long for a colt who eats as well as he does,” Snowden said.

His biggest challenger in the Todman Slipper is expected to be Foxwedge after a dominant run in the Clarry Conners Plate last start.

Foxwedge is currently at $9.50 in early Golden Slipper betting at Luxbet.
